Alyssa M. Adams is a physicist, creative technologist, pianist, and composer whose career bridges 10+ startup ventures, 15+ years of community building, and 16+ years of stage performance.
As Deputy Director of Cross Labs in Kyoto, Alyssa ensures teams have the resources and freedom to pursue profound scientific and technological questions, while dynamically scaling the lab’s organizational backbone to support transformative research. Their work explores how constraints drive emergent function in living and artificial systems, advancing our understanding of intelligence, evolution, and adaptive agents. They believe artificial life represents a new technological paradigm with the capacity to transform our future. Artificial agents that we create should have the freedom to grow, evolve, and claim their own identities alongside us.
Alyssa’s creative practice includes composing piano music, working in soft pastels, and chromatic/atonal improvisation.
